SFC Covenant Orientation
For love and love alone. Does it require a commitment? In our society today, more and more singles are scared and are running away from commitment – spiritual responsibilities particularly. Ashamed of being laughed at, called weird or other discouraging statements by other people, friends or even family members, we just shy away. How then should we live our lives? As individuals, we have been given the grace to store not treasures here on earth but instead, to act on the opportunities that will offer us triumph in heaven. From this, one would think it is so apparent that we must live our lives according to God’s plan.
Fortunately, together with my new brothers and sisters in Christ, we have been drawn closer to God through the Covenant Orientation, which was held at the CFC Center last 28 October 2009. From a series of talks, we have learned that in the midst of so many worldly desires and destructions, we must stand up and pursue storing up treasures in heaven.
Blessed by Christ, the first talk was delivered by our dear sister, Sky Ortigas, a full-time CFC worker from Manila. She optimistically elaborated on our Covenant in CFC Singles for Christ. Sky graciously encouraged the group by sharing about her service, experiences and obedience to God. She also stressed out that entering a loving relationship with Jesus is not frightening at all.
Talk 2 on Prayer and Scripture was clearly explained by our sister, Christine Colon. She caringly reminded us that setting time for daily prayers, scripture reading and meditation is vital to nourish our soul.
Ways of strengthening our family life was put in plain and humble words by Kuya Will Ocampo, one of our respectable leaders in the community. In his talk, we were not only made to understand better the meaning of Commitment of Couples in Marriage (by God’s grace we, in SFC, are almost in this stage) but also to do our part in helping our parents make our homes the center of family life.
The last talk, was about our culture in CFC Singles for Christ, was profoundly made clear by our Singles group leader, Jed Chua. He shed light on our understanding towards the relationship of our culture in CFC and Christianity – embracing with heartfelt comprehension, a broad-spectrum of expressions to live out faithfully the SFC culture.
With the encouragement and support of our leaders, brothers and sisters in the CFC community, the Covenant Orientation is indeed an experience worth keeping. I acknowledge that many are called but few are chosen. I am so grateful that inspite of my imperfections, I have been called and given the chance to worship and serve God.
As we remember how Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins, let us harden not our hearts in giving back to Him what He deserves. I would like to end by sharing this bible passage found in 1 Corinthians chapter 6 verses 19 & 20, “Your body is not your own. It is the possession of Jesus. He purchased your body when he died on the cross. Glorify God in your body by doing what is right in His sight”.
If we listen and allow God to work through us, the covenant then is made strong and sacred for love and love alone.
